The Desi Gadget

NotionInk's Adam Tablet PC
‘A gadget that breaks all boundaries and redefines mobile computing’, that’s what technocrats define ‘Adam’ as. The name Adam as we know belongs to the first man created by God, though not a being this gadget has strikingly juxtaposed features. ‘Adam’ is the brainchild of NotionInk, an innovative venture launched by a handful of IIT graduates and an IIPM graduate. These innovators have proved that mobile computing in no more esoteric in the India, a true moment of inspiration to the budding engineers and youths.

In the wake of brain drain with most Indian masterminds being drained to MNCs such as Intel, Microsoft, IBM, Apple etc, a group of students from top-notch institutions from the country embracing to fabricate a gadget that has the ‘Made in India’ insignia on it is praiseworthy. Though India is a booming software superpower it couldn’t probe the expanses of hardware development, until the invention of ‘Adam’ which is creating ripple-effects throughout. Adam Tablet PC, as it is known, made its maiden voyage at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas early January this year, where geeks adjudged Adam as one amongst the puissant contenders to Apple’s iPad. Now that is some serious competition, who knows that one day the Macintoshes and the i-variants would become obsolete.

Rohit Rathi, a co-founder of NotionInk, says that the features of Adam were primarily inspired by the OLPC (One Laptop per Child) programme launched by OLPC Inc., a non-profit US organisation. Adam is based on the Android mobile operating platform developed by Google and features a whooping 10” dual-mode Pixel QI touchscreen that gives you crystal clear outputs even at the brightest times of the day. It is run by the nVIDIA TEGRA 2 dual-core microprocessor and has a built-in storage capacity of up 32GB which is expandable. What’s marvelling about Adam is that all these colossal features are squeezed in a 14mm thick body that merely weighs around 700 gms. So far it is the only one of its kind, hence the name ADAM!

Developments

Adam has not gone into fully fledged commercial production and is still in its prototype phase despite our breathless anticipation, its innovators are presently tweaking its features and price tags to make it available to all Indians as envisaged by its creators. Expecting its launch in most emporiums around the globe, may this blue-ribbon gadget break all speculated barriers.

So those maestros out there 'waiting' for opportunities stop dilly-dallying, pave your own thoroughfares and push yourselves through the limit.
